Dear Santa Rosa City Schools Community,
Thank you for doing your part to stay at home and reduce community transmission of COVID-19 (coronavirus), and for your patience as we all transition to distance learning. We know that this is a difficult time for many families. Everyone is doing the best they can. Please take a few moments to read this update on the transition that will allow all of our students to continue to learn from home.
Packets will be mailed
Particularly for elementary schools: if your individual schools are providing instructional materials in paper format, they are going to be mailed to you at home. We have decided that this is safer and a better use of social distancing than to have families come to schools to pick up school work. Packets will be mailed at the end of this week, and in the future as needed.
Chromebook distribution
Principals from each school are making lists of which students need to borrow a Chromebook in order to work online. If you need one, and you haven’t contacted your principal, please do so (school principal email addresses). The distribution will begin with students from high schools and middle schools, starting this week. Your principal will notify you by phone call and email. Only those students who have been notified will be provided a Chromebook in this initial distribution. The distribution of Chromebooks for elementary schools will be next week. Your elementary principal will be contacting you to let you know the day and time.
WiFi Hotspots
Next week, we expect to receive a limited number of wifi hotspots for our students who need to complete assignments on computers, but who do not have wifi connections at home. Once again, principals will provide more information.
School campuses/fields closed
The Sonoma County Health Officer’s recent order closing all parks includes school fields, tracks and playgrounds. According to Sonoma County’s website: “School yards are considered public parks when school is not in session, so this closure order applies to those spaces as well.”
Free Meals
We have served thousands of free “Grab and Go” meals to our county’s children during the past week. Parents, please give yourself and your family a break and come get meals for your children. They are for any child ages 0-18, from any school district. Stop by any location. For more information: srcschools.org/freemeals
