I’m a dedicated user of the Libby app, which allows me to browse the OverDrive collections of local and regional libraries. Today, I added one more library to my Libby app: the University of Central Missouri and its James C. Kirkpatrick Library. Today’s post on the JCKL blog had information about UCM’s OverDrive collection: more than 1,400 e-books and 150 audio books currently available.

SSU Library, highlight of move back home

One of the highlights of our return to the Sonoma County area is the Sonoma State University Library. When I attended classes, the library was housed in the Ruben Salazar building — and it was easily one of the most significant places on the SSU campus for me.

When I added up my time spent in professional and volunteer capacities, I discovered that I’d logged the first 500 hours in my library service career.

Hannon Library computers have Adobe Creative Suite

Courtesy of Jim Rible on Facebook, Hannon Library at Southern Oregon University has two new iMacs with the entire Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection.

This information is vitally important; my initial career as a (volunteer) desktop publisher was entirely possible through accessing computers at the Sonoma State University library.

Through my use of software in the SSU lab, I was able to create monthly and quarterly newsletters for local and regional bodies in the Society for Creative Anachronism.

That early familiarity with software and meeting deadlines served me well 15 years ago when I applied for a position with the Lake County Record-Bee. My success at that position can directly be attributed to those library computer lab resources.

Library training offers chance at new career

I have relied upon libraries my entire life, beginning with the Napa County branch library in my hometown of Calistoga. My mother arranged for my first library card and brought me at least once every week to my local library.
