Gender-inclusive bathrooms at Berkeley Public Library

I just posted a review on Google Maps for the Berkeley Public Library, about a feature at the downtown library that felt particularly welcoming. And that was, in addition to offering gendered bathrooms, this library gives patrons the OPTION of using gender-inclusive bathrooms.

These days when I use a public bathroom, I am increasingly concerned about gender vigilantism that makes EVERYONE less safe in the “Women’s” bathroom.

I’ve seen pictures of people who were harassed and attacked for using the “Women’s” bathroom and they don’t look so different from me. So frequently I wonder: is this the day that someone will look at my clothing or at my face that is devoid of make-up, and decide that a) I am using the “wrong” bathroom and b) they are entitled to harass me?

More and more, I feel safer using an inclusive bathroom. My appreciation to the Berkeley downtown library for offering that safety to its patrons. I wish more libraries and other public spaces would similarly follow suit.
