SRCS : Schools closed through Friday

All schools and offices of Santa Rosa City Schools will continue to be closed through Friday, Nov. 1, 2019.

Email to staff and families, Oct. 28, 2019:

Due to dangerous weather and fire conditions, power shutoffs, and evacuations, all schools and offices will continue to be CLOSED for the rest of the week, through Friday, November 1, 2019. All after-school programs, such as athletics and childcare, are also canceled.

When considering if schools can reopen, we look at key data to make an informed decision. More than half of our teachers and staff have been evacuated from their homes, as have large numbers of our families and students. Some evacuation zones in West County have been lifted allowing residents in those areas to return. However, at this time we are unsure of the time frame to clear other mandatory evacuation zones.

In addition, PG&E PSPS power shutoffs still affect several of our school sites. Air quality concerns, debris and ash, and safe travel to and from school also factor into the decision to open schools. We have assessed our schools and have determined we will clean all sites inside and the debris outside. This may take until Sunday.

We will continue to provide you with regular updates, and we all look forward to seeing everyone back in their schools as soon as possible.

Take extra special care,

Diann Kitamura
Superintendent
