‘Student OneCard’ at Sonoma County Library

Logo, 'Student OneCard'

The month of September is traditionally “Library Card Sign-Up Month,” and I’ve been promoting “virtual library cards” for Sonoma County Library — available to all students enrolled in Santa Rosa City Schools.

Thanks to a partnership between SRCS and Sonoma County Library, students were automatically registered last March for the “Student OneCard” program.

(Parents who wish to, can opt their child out by filling out a form and turning it in at any branch of Sonoma County Library.)

Through “Student OneCard,” students use their student ID as a Sonoma County Library account. Every student is issued a 6-digit ID, which follows them throughout their time in Santa Rosa City Schools. I strongly encourage every student to memorize their ID number.

Using this ID, students can check out books from Sonoma County Library. Students also have access to databases, electronic materials (including eBooks, music, magazines, and more) and free online homework tutoring.

I’ve printed out flyers, in both Spanish and in English, that briefly explain these resources — and youth-services librarians from Sonoma County Library are available to make presentations to classrooms.
