“The CCSS were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce. These groups received feedback from many national organizations that represent teachers, students with disabilities, English language learners and other demographics. After the initial round of feedback the drafts were open for public comment. The reason for the shift is to increase continuity from state to state as well as to make our students critical thinkers who [are] ready for college and the workforce. Our students need to be ready for jobs that we can only dream of!”The essay explains that Common Core math curriculum was adopted last year.
In order to transition to new English Language Arts standards, Bellview staff has participated in a book study using Pathways to the Common Core: Accelerating Achievement by Lucy Calkins, Mary Ehrenworth and Christopher Lehman. Staff has also participated in trainings and purchased more informational texts to supplement the current curriculum.
