Patricia Gallagher Picture Book Award

Patricia Gallagher Book Award nominated titles, arranged on library counter-top

In Bellview library, I’m drawing staff attention to the Patricia Gallagher Picture Book Award. This year’s nominated titles are available in Bellview library, with voting open until April 30.

The nominees are:

  • Dolphin Baby! by Nicola Davies, illustrated by Brita Granström
  • On a Beam of Light by Jennifer Berne, illustrated by Vladimir Radunsky
  • Fandango Stew by David Davis, illustrated by Ben Galbraith
  • A Rock is Lively by Dianna Hutts Aston, illustrated by Sylvia Long
  • The Fox in the Library by Lorenz Pauli, illustrated by Kathrin Schärer

This award is overseen by the Oregon Reading Association. It is named in honor of Patricia Gallagher, a woman who loves reading and spent many years imparting that love to children. The books are chosen for their “innate appeal to children,” their quality text and illustrations. The books must also qualify as good read-alouds.

At Bellview library, I continually look for fun reading programs and promotions, especially for students who are not yet old enough to compete in Oregon Battle of the Books.

With its emphasis on picture books, I think this award is especially suitable for Bellview’s youngest readers. Ballots are available in Bellview library and can be placed in the “VOTE” box on the circulation counter.
