‘The Invisible Parade’ by Bardugo and Picacio

One of my joys in SRCSA library is being able to offer read-alouds to some of the visiting classes. To help contribute to our schoolwide celebration of Día de Muertos, I read The Invisible Parade to some of the school’s fourth- and fifth-graders.

Written by Leigh Bardugo and illustrated by John Picacio, The Invisible Parade is a beautiful book, lavishly illustrated with very heartfelt prose. The story takes place during the night of Día de Muertos. A young girl, Cala, is grieving the death of her grandfather, and is reluctant to join her community’s celebration. Cala meets four mysterious figures in the local graveyard, and they help her to realize her bravery.
