‘Benita and the Night Creatures’ by Mariana Llanos

Benita just wants to read her brand-new book, while creatures from Peruvian folklore do their best to scare her in Benita and the Night Creatures, written by Mariana Llanos with illustrations by Cocoretto.

This was a fun read-aloud, perfect for October’s spooky season. And as someone who dearly wants to impart a love of reading to my library customers, I loved the book’s depiction of Benita and the monsters nestled together to enjoy a read-aloud. Benita and the Night Creatures was an Honor Book in 2024 for the Pura Belpré Award.
