‘My Fade is Fresh’ by Grant and Thomas

A new school year is underway in SRCSA library, and I’ve already fielded my first read-aloud request: My Fade is Fresh, by Shauntay Grant.

I’m looking forward to honoring this read-aloud request in our library’s new group-reading spot. (Volunteer efforts and money raised through our school’s Read-A-Thon resulted in this and other cosmetic improvements in SRCSA library.)

Paired with vivid illustrations by Kitt Thomas, My Fade is Fresh is a story told in jaunty and uplifting rhymes. It’s about a girl who knows exactly what she wants when she goes to her local barbershop: “The freshest fade up on the block.”

Even though the adults all suggest many other beautiful hairstyles, Grant’s protagonist stays true to her choice.
