Celeste’s Harlem Renaissance, by Eleanora E. Tate
Each Friday that school is in session, I share the link to a read-aloud preview of a book from SRCSA library. The “First-chapter Friday” selection for Dec. 1, 2023 is Celeste’s Harlem Renaissance, by Eleanora E. Tate.
The year is 1921 and Celeste Lassiter Massey has been forced to live with her Aunt Valentina, an actress, in Harlem. Celeste is not thrilled to trade her friends and comfortable North Carolina for scary, big-city life. While Celeste experiences the Harlem Renaissance in full swing, she sees as much grit as glamor. A passionate writer, talented violinist, and aspiring doctor, Celeste eventually faces a choice between ambition and loyalty, roots and horizons. The decision will change her forever.
