Each Friday I share the link to a read-aloud preview of a book from our school library, with the SRCSA community. The “First-chapter Friday” selection for May 20, 2022, is Mañanaland, by Pam Muñoz Ryan.
Max loves fútbol, although his hopes of joining a team are replaced by working with his Dad and eventually discovering that his family are secret guardians who take on refugees and deliver them to “Mañanaland.” This book was an inductee to Notable Children’s Books for 2021, the “best of the best” in children’s books as determined by the Association for Library Service to Children.
