These librarians aren’t on the usual sort of “wheels” that I showcase, but I couldn’t resist passing along an article from the Arizona Daily Star, which proclaimed that “Librarians become new selves when not between shelves.”
Bethany Wilson, managing librarian at Dewhirst-Catalina Library, and Georgia Taylor, children’s librarian at the Quincie Douglas branch of the Pima County Public Library, both compete in roller derby. This library assistant and cyclist especially appreciated Taylor’s number, 641.86 (the Dewey classification number for baking). Taylor’s on-track identity is Dewey Decimatrix.
But there’s more! While my email newsletter from American Libraries focused on the “derbrarians,” the Arizona Daily Star also profiled a librarian who founded a women’s motorcycle club and a librarian who lifts weights.
