At Entrepreneur.com, Lisa Evans lists four steps employers can take to create an autism-friendly work environment. She cites findings by D.C. author Patti Pacelli, that autism is seen at an asset in some companies.
“Pacelli says autistic individuals are incredibly loyal employees and are often extremely passionate about their job. Since they take comfort in routine and are conscious of time deadlines and rules, they can be some of the most productive and reliable workers, especially in jobs that involve repetitive or detail-oriented work.”
Among Evans’ recommendations: Provide clear, written instructions, provide opportunities to communicate in writing instead of with spoken words, provide structure and quiet work stations with an ability to dim harsh lights.
