Via an evening update: Ashland School District campuses will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 5, and all school-related athletic and extracurricular events will be cancelled as well.
“Temperatures are forecasted to remain below freezing throughout tomorrow. As a result, all wet surfaces will likely be covered in ice causing unsafe driving conditions. The safety of students and staff is very important to us and our maintenance crews will continue their work clearing snow from walkways and parking lots so that our campuses are prepared for the return of students and staff.”
Indeed, the U.S. National Weather Service Forecast Office out of Medford, Oregon reported in a 6:37 p.m. forecast, “Temperatures are dropping very quickly this evening and have already fallen below freezing in many areas. ”
Ashland School District uses SchoolReach phone- or text-messaging to inform parents of closures and delays, using a number provided by the parents when registering a child for school.
Information about school closures and delays is posted on the district website, with Alert-banners on every page. This information is also broadcast on TV, on channels 5, 10 and 12.
