Voting opened this week for the 2016 Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award, which is open to Oregon elementary students.

This award is named in honor of Beverly Cleary, the Oregon-born children’s book author. The winning title is announced each year on Cleary's birthday, April 12.

The 2016 nominees are:

  • Ukulele Hayley by Judy Cox
  • Charlie Bumpers vs. The Teacher of the Year by Bill Harley
  • White Fur Flying by Patricia MacLachlan
  • Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table by Jacqueline Briggs Martin
  • The Mystery of Meerkat Hill by Alexander McCall Smith
  • Gone Fishing by Tamera Wissinger

Readers will find all but one of these books in Bellview Elementary School library. Students can request Ukulele Hayley through the Jackson County public library.

Voting takes place through April 10 and ballots are available in Bellview library. In order to vote, students must read or listen to at least two nominated books.
