Beverly Cleary award titles in Bellview library |
Students must read or listen to at least two nominated books, to be eligible to vote for their favorite in each award.
This year’s nominees in the Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award are:
- Ukulele Hayley by Judy Cox
- Charlie Bumpers vs. The Teacher of the Year by Bill Harley
- White Fur Flying by Patricia MacLachlan
- Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table by Jacqueline Briggs Martin
- The Mystery of Meerkat Hill by Alexander McCall Smith
- Gone Fishing by Tamera Wissinger
This year’s nominees in the Oregon Reader’s Choice Award are:
- True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp by Kathi Appelt
- Jinx by Sage Blackwood
- Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo
- Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein
- A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff
- Donner Dinner Party by Nathan Hale
- Mountain Dog by Margarita Engle
- Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell
Among both awards, there is an overlap of titles with Oregon Battle of the Books, which means students assigned to read those OBOB selections may already be eligible to vote for these awards.
Bellview was represented last year among Oregon’s voting student population, and I’d love to see continuing turnout by our Bellview students. I’m asking Bellview staff to encourage student participation in the Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice and Oregon Reader’s Choice awards.
