Library yarn bombing promotes ‘common read’

An image added to the timeline this week at Yarn Bombing @ Your Library has extra significance for me, as the installation served to draw attention to a community’s “common read.”

I have long appreciated the shared experience of reading a book in common, and this week knitters “yarn-bombed” Lawrence Public Library in Lawrence, Kansas to kick off the library’s “Read Across Lawrence” program.

On its Facebook page, the library invites readers to “Learn how knitting and the color red” play into the “Read Across Lawrence” adult selection, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.
