Oregon Battle of the Books 2014-2015 reading list

In time for Bellview students to get a summer-reading head start, Oregon Battle of the Books has released its 2014-2015 reading list. In Bellview library today, I affixed spine labels to books to identify them as OBOB selections.

In the third- to fifth-grade division, the books are:
  • The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester by Barbara O’Connor Gaby
  • Lost and Found by Angela Cervantes
  • Kizzy Ann Stamps by Jeri Watts
  • The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
  • A Nest for Celeste by Henry Cole
  • Night of the Twisters by Ivy Ruckman
  • The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
  • Rules by Cynthia Lord
  • Sasquatch by Roland Smith
  • Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin
  • Swindle by Gordon Korman
  • Tales from the Odyssey, Part One by Mary Pope Osborne
  • Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume
  • The Trouble with Chickens by Doreen Cronin
  • The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney
  • The Year of the Book by Andrea Cheng
OBOB is run by volunteers through the Oregon Association of School Libraries. Administrators select titles in three divisions each year, for students in third through 12th grades.

According to the website, books are selected on the basis of interest, quality and availability. Books can have been previous OBOB selections but must not be repeated within at least four years of being on the list.
