“To be ready for college, workforce training, and a life in a technological society, students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas ... to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and nonprint texts in media forms old and new.”“The whole purpose here,” Cox said during a recent ALA Booklist webinar, “is we are preparing students for their future.” Cox added that the “aha-moment” she would like attendees to take from the webinar is that “Common Core is not about what is in a book; Common Core is about what you do with the content of the book.”
