Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County

Talk about fortuitous timing: the Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County was parked in downtown Santa Rosa while I was walking there one day this week.

The Free Bookmobile gives away free books at locations throughout the area. (The schedule is listed on its website.)

It got its start as a weekend service project by a local family. Today it operates as a program of the Sonoma County Public Library Foundation, an organization that also supports “The Big Read” and Sonoma County public libraries.

Here is a description of the Free Bookmobile from program director Glen Weaver: “The Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County promotes literacy and love of reading by giving away high quality books to access-challenged people throughout the region. On a mission of outreach, the Free Bookmobile especially seeks to serve children, families, and seniors living in rural and low-income areas.”

To assist its mission, the Free Bookmobile invites donations of quality books, as well as financial assistance and efforts by volunteers. Visit its website to learn about ways to support the Free Bookmobile.
