During this time, the department will waive the county portion of the adoption fee. According to the published article, this will reduce the price for dogs by $30 and for cats by $20.

I hope that by waiving its portion of the adoption fee, Lake County will successfully promote adoption of a companion animal. My sweet cat Starfire brings so much joy to my life; I want the cats and dogs at the county shelter to similarly have loving homes.

The remaining adoption costs include spaying and neutering, microchip, rabies and other vaccines, heartworm test (when applicable) and license.

These will be $76 for a male cat, $86 for a female cat, $116 for a male dog, $126 for a female dog weighing 60 pounds or less and $141 for a female dog heavier than 60 pounds.

Animal Care and Control shelter adoption hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The shelter will also be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 6, a Sunday, for the adoption event.
